Peg Tube Placement

Kevin had the procedure for the feeding tube placement on Thursday. He was extremely anxious about the procedure. Really didn’t help that we got there, we find out the blood test he took the day before, wasn’t complete. Someone forgot to include a very important test so we had to go to the lab again for more blood.

Once we made it to the back room to prep for the procedure, I had hoped he would calm down. Whelp, that didn’t quite work out. Terri, the male nurse and former wrestler, struggled to insert the IV. Mind you, Kevin’s VERY FIRST TIME GETTING AN IV! So, after several times hearing, “Well that’s not good. That vein just blew out. You got bad veins buddy?” Terri moved on to the other arm. After another “blow out” and as blood splatters to the floor, the stoic and strong wife that I am, almost passed out! Of course, they also decide to hook Kevin up to a BP machine. Obviously, that didn’t go well. But, Teri finally got that darn IV in, but not before I swear Kevin almost bolted.

I put the funny hospital socks on his feet. They were grey. Kevin asks the other nurse, Nurse Wendy, “Are these the color for flight risk?” Extreme anxiety and my husband still finds jokes! LOL

Alas, our savior Nurse Wendy says, “I think we can give him something to relax him now.” Oh thank you Wendy!!!!

Kevin feeling really good after Nurse Wendy slipped him a mickey. Thank you Nurse Wendy!!!

Well, Nurse Wendy explained the medication would make him feel really relaxed but not knock him out. They needed him awake for the procedure. (😬😱) She explained it would be similar to nitrous oxide but also has a little amnesia effect. Well, obviously from the pic above, it certainly relaxed him! I’m a very lucky lady because my husband has always showed me appreciation. Whatever that feel good drug was, he wanted me to know it again. All that anxiousness was gone, and my big strong husband was a teenage boy in love, and melting my heart once again!

Once he was feeling good, and had me all teary eyed cause I’m his “Wonder Woman” and he wanted my golden lasso, Nurse Wendy came to wheel him away. Well, you know my hubby. Cue the inappropriate video!

He’s flashing me his as they wheel him into the procedure room. Nurse Wendy has a great sense of humor!

Thumbs up and ready to get the heck outta this joint! I’m starving!
Well, nobody told us he would be on a LIQUID DIET FOR 24 HOURS!

Well, at least it was time to take him home. Oh wait! We have a chemo class we have to attend and the only day they could schedule this for is 2pm on the day he gets his PEG Tube! Oh heck, they said he could send me instead. So, this lucky and still a little drugged guy (and still very mushy) gets to go hang out at his big brother Steve’s house, while I get to attend a chemo class back at the hospital! So, I take him to Steve’s to get him comfortable and feed him some jello before heading back to the hospital. Steve isn’t home but lets us in while he is on his way.
